DNA Pilates Studio
in the Simonson Resource Center

Pilates instructors at DNA will focus on identifying and correcting faulty movement
patterns and muscular imbalances while strengthening the body and increasing joint range
of motion and stability. Client protocols will be designed in regards to the client's health
history, goals, and functional requirements. New muscular patterns will be integrated into
full-body movements within each one-hour session.

Wellness Center Coordinator Teri Steele graduated from UC Berkeley with a BA in Physical
Education in 1990. She has been a certified Personal Trainer since 1991 and has taught
Modern Dance in NYC since 1995. In 2000, she received her Pilates Mat and Apparatus
Certification from the Kelly Kane School of Core Integration in NYC. Since then, she
has trained clients privately in NYC as well as instructed students at Dance New Amsterdam
in Pilates Mat and Stability Ball classes. In 2005, she created DNA's Pilates Mat Certification
Program (accredited by the Pilates Method Alliance) and, in 2006, she became a PMA accredited
continued education provider. Teri's practice emphasizes educating her clients in the core
principles of the Pilates Method as well as the anatomical explanations that support the
principles. She works directly and consistently towards her client's goals in a safe and
movement-oriented environment. Her clients range from professional dancers to 89 year
old post-surgery individuals.

Other Pilates instructors at DNA include:

Shelley Poovey was certified in Pilates through the
Kane School of Core Integration and has been teaching
for the past four years. Her work is informed by her
studies in yoga, martial arts, bodywork, developmental
movement studies, Gyrotonic, and fifteen years of
dancing. She likes the combination of Pilates with
bodywork to dynamically stretch and align, toward the
goal of being able to do a full, challenging workout
without stress or strain. She rehabilitated her
severe knee injury with Pilates, and is excited to
work with anyone recovering from any knee problem. She
was the Pilates Department Manager of Sal Anthony's
Movement Salon for two years, and helped teach and
develop their teacher-training program for both
matwork and equipment.

Donnell Turner has taught Pilates since her certification from Polestar Pilates in 2003. She has
been fortunate enough to continue studying biomechanics through the The Kane School of Core
Integration and The Pilates Garage in Brooklyn. Donnell emphasizes a client?s understanding
of how his or her body is driven and from that awareness she believes the body can transform.
