Class Description
Class will begin by creating an open space for exploration. This time and space will be an opportunity for students to develop their practice of dance, encouraging experimentation and mobilization of the body. We will work with both set movement sequences and improvisation, from the floor up to standing to release tension, develop strength and increase flexibility. Exploration between the breath and movement, the range of motion in the body, momentum, direction, technical specificity, space, musicality and intention will be focal points. The class will culminate in highly athletic phrase material pushing the edges of our physicality, stamina and capacity to indulge in the pleasure of moving through space and with one another. Milovan-Kohler’s class will draw from a history of technique/education some of which include her studies with Douglas Becker, Donna Faye Burchfield, Jeffery Bullock, David Dorfman, Mark Haim, Ellen Hemphill, Gerri Houlihan, Kim Karpanty, Daniel Lepkoff, Karen Love, Martha Myers, Jennifer Nugent, Darwin Prioleau and Lisa Race.
