Class description: Beginner, Slow Intermediate & Intermediate
Antolino Alvarez has been teaching Contemporary Jazz Simonson Technique at DNA since 2004. Simonson Technique, developed by Lynn Simonson, is a comprehensive and anatomically-based technique that prepares the body to dance with awareness and safety.
Antolino Alvarez’s wide range of music tastes (from Blues and R&B to Latin, Funk, and world music) inspire him to integrate rhythm, style, and intention in his Contemporary Jazz choreography. In his across-the-floor and dance combinations, he focuses on phrasing, weight shifts, transitions, change of tempo, and efficient use of energy and breath. Antolino encourages students to treat dance not only as a venue for body and soul expression, but also as a tool for self-improvement and joy.
