Laura Peterson is a NYC-based dance artist and Artistic Director of Laura Peterson Choreography. The company has had residencies and commissions in New York City at the Queens Museum of Art, Dance New Amsterdam, Lower Manhattan Cultural Council’s Sitelines 2010 and Swing Space (2009-2010) and has received two Mondo Cane! commissions at Dixon Place. She is currently a member of the HERE Artist-in-Residence Program (HARP) who has commissioned and supported the development of her series Wooden, which premieres in November 2011. Her dances have been presented in New York at venues including  PS 122, Symphony Space, Dance Theater Workshop (Family Matters and DancenowNYC), Danspace Project (Draftworks),  Joe’s Pub, HERE and many others.

Laura’s choreography has been produced internationally in Europe, Argentina and throughout the US. Her work has been performed at Lincoln Center Out-of-Doors, Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival Inside/Out, Philadelphia’s NEW Festival, Goose Route Dance Festival in WV, at Links Hall in Chicago, The International Contemporary Dance Festival in Bytom, Poland, and throughout Germany. Laura has been commissioned by Pennsylvania Ballet, Hartford Ballet, and DROP Dance in Boise, ID and has made dances for NYU’s Tisch Dance Department and Lehman College. For Fall 2011, Laura has been commissioned to create works for Hunter College Dance Department and DNA’s Performance Project.

Laura’s performance credits include Julie Taymor’s film, Across The Universe, choreographed by Daniel Ezralow. She has performed with Risa Jaroslow & Dancers, Poppo & the GoGo Boys, , Paule Turner’s court (Phila.), Group Motion Dance Company (Phila.), Asimina Chremos (Chicago), Alice Farley Dance Theater (NYC), Eun Jung Choi, and many others.

She has taught dance at CUNY Lehman College, Western Connecticut State University and Rowan University. Laura is a faculty member at Dance New Amsterdam in NYC and a frequent guest artist at 100 Grand Dance. She is a returning faculty member at the Balance Dance  Company Professional Training Intensive in Boise, ID.  Laura holds a BFA in Modern Dance from the University of the Arts and an MFA in Dance from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts.
Class Description

Continuous Dancing: modern technique
This class is very physical and blends full-bodied and dynamic movement with elements of improvisation to create a sense of continuity, athleticism and detailed dancing.
