Absolute Beginner Flamenco

Bio:
Internationally acclaimed dancer, actor and choreographer, Jorge Navarro, has been hailed by the Washington Post and the New York Times, as “truly passionate” and possessing “amazing rhythmic control.” At 17 he debuted at Carnegie Hall with the Alvaro Tena Dance Company. As a recognized dancer, Jorge Navarro appeared on numerous TV shows, such as Good Morning America (ABC), As the World Turns (CBS), Por El Mundo (Galavision), and on a special invitation by Joaquin Cortes, Today New York (CNBC). Jorge Navarro worked closely with Al Pacino and Keanu Reeves as the Dance and Choreography Consultant for the Devil’s Advocate, directed by Taylor Hackford. An actor himself, Navarro starred in such movies as Take Me Our Tonight by Emily Rosdeitcher, Death of My Past by May Charters, Flamenco Documentary by Paco Villan, and Pasion by Monica Aswani. Jorge Navarro is also one of the most sought-after instructors, conducting dance classes in NYC and bringing up the new generation of successful young professional dancers.

Class Description:
Absolute Beginner Flamenco
Introduction to essential, basic flamenco dance technique which includes correct posture, upper body, hand, arm and heel work. The student will become familiar with basic flamenco vocabulary and will develop clarity in heel work and develop their upper to lower body coordination. The class will include exercises to improve the students’ stance, to build strong muscles in the hands and arms and to improve the blood circulation in the legs. Absolute Beginner Flamenco will give the student the freedom of expression.

Students may feel free to take their first few classes in hard leather sole shoes or character shoes.
