Gina Kohler

dream [factories]
dream [factories] a new work by artist Gina Milovan-Kohler, exposes the politics of women’s bodies, making visible the intersections of race, gender, sexuality and the media. Milovan-Kohler explores the relationship between ornamentation and crime, violence and desire. dream [factories] questions the consumption and mediation of the body that occurs through surveillance and the spectacle of the theater. This work pushes the boundaries of the traditional proscenium stage and challenges hierarchical systems of techniques. Through resistance to patriarchal capitalist systems, Milovan-Kohler uses her body and voice as a site for transgression and mobilization. She interrogates the real.

dream [factories] premiered at the American Dance Festival (NC) in 2009. Milovan-Kohler has presented this work at Galapagos Art Space (NY), Hollins University (VA), WUK im_flieger (Vienna), Ulla’s House (NY), Page Not Found (NY), Salem State College (MA) and Frostburg State University (MD). In addition to her performance; Milovan-Kohler was invited as a guest lecturer on ‘Nudity and Performance’ at Salem State College and Frostburg State University. This work is adaptable to various spaces and is currently in process with an artistic team of collaborators including, Tessa Chandler, Jo Leung, Eric Kohler and James Morrow. Milovan-Kohler is in the process of expanding dream [factories] into an evening length work.
