Modern and Contemporary
Dance New Amsterdam’s modern and contemporary dance classes offer instruction from beginner through professional levels in a variety of styles. Our permanent faculty members are established voices in the dance community and offer a range of perspectives that together form a comprehensive approach to anatomically correct contemporary dancing. Our modern classes are designed to prepare and expose dancers to the high qualitative demands of the current modern dance world.
In addition to our all-star permanent faculty, Dance New Amsterdam offers a variety of programs to enhance its modern and contemporary class offerings, including:
Modern Guest Artist Series
Company Class Series
Trisha Brown Dance Company Weekly Wednesday Series

Cunningham Technique™
DNA is also home to the Simonson Technique, created and developed by master teacher Lynn Simonson. Simsonson Technique is an organic approach to movement that prepares the body to dance in a way that is anatomically intelligent and somatically aware. The goals of Simonson Technique training are to eliminate the pre-disposition to injury from previous mis-alignment patterns, develop and support the body in a way that allows efficient and free movement and to experience the joy of dance with longevity and wellness. A teacher of Simonson Technique recognizes that each student is unique. Rather than ask students to fit a pre-described ideal, they are guided and taught as to what is anatomically correct for their bodies. Hailed as an intelligent and logical method to prepare the body for dance, the Simonson Technique has received recognition throughout the world since 1970 and is taught by certified faculty in 20 countries worldwide.
