Held twice yearly in the Spring and Fall, the Performance Project offers DNA Students an opportunity to expand upon relationships with DNA Faculty and Guest Modern Artists established through open classes. DNA supports the growth of relationships outside of the classroom by pairing students with teachers of their choosing to work collaboratively on a creative project presented in a three-evening concert. This season’s choreographers include Rachel Feinerman, Diane McCarthy, Jayson “Mouse” Vasquez, Sasha Soreff and Oliver Steele.

Rachel Feinerman

Rachel Feinerman started dancing at Barnard College and received her BA in Dance and Political Science. She currently performs with Laurie De Vito & Dancers and danced for Ricardo Gomez Dance Theatre, Daria Fain’s Human Behavior Explorers, Wilson Mendieta, Isabel Gotzkowsky, Gail Accardi, Suki John, and many others. She has also been cast in several film and photo projects. Rachel’s choreography has been presented at DNA, Green Space Studio, WAX, Evolving Arts Theater, Makor, Greenwich House Theater, and Minor Latham Playhouse. She has been on faculty at DNA since 2000 and has taught at Barnard College, 3rd Ward, and the Educational Alliance.

Diane McCarthy

Diane McCarthy has been performing, teaching and choreographing throughout the U.S. and Europe for the past twenty years. Her work has been presented in Holland, Spain, Canada, New York and Seattle, Washington. She gives workshops in Canada and Spain yearly and has been on faculty at various colleges and universities around the States including Manhattanville College, Hofstra University, MaryMount College, the Spence School, the Mark Morris Dance School in Brooklyn and Bates College in Maine. Diane has been on faculty at Dance New Amsterdam teaching Simonson technique for twenty years.

Jayson “Mouse” Vasquez

Jayson “Mighty Mouse” Vasquez was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY. He started his dance career in the subways of Times Square train station dancing for money. From the streets to the professional dance world, Mouse has worked with the likes of Tyler Perry and Rennie Harris. His film/tv credits include Good Morning America 25th Anniversary, USA Network commercial, “Show Us Your Character”, and VH1 Hip Hop Honor Awards, dancing for Grand Master Caz. He has laos danced for modern theater companies such as Eleo Pomare Dance Company, Louis Johnson Dance Company, and has also co-choreographed on the Joan Miller Dance Company. Currently, Mouse is teaching master classes that educate students about the true essence of hip hop dance, culture, and history.

Sasha Soreff

Sasha Soreff is the creative director of Sasha Soreff Dance Theater, which has been presenting work in New York and New England since 2002, including at the Ailey Citigroup Theater, Long Island University and on WNET’s MetroArts Television Station (more information at sashasoreffdance.com). Sasha has served on faculty at Dance New Amsterdam since 2000, and has served as a teaching assistant to kinesthetic anatomist Irene Dowd. She had the pleasure of dancing with Isabel Gotzkowsky and Friends from 1998-2004. A Maine native, Sasha attended North Carolina School of the Arts and Barnard College.

Oliver Steele

Oliver Steele is Co-Artistic Director of Steeledance.
