On February 14, 2010, Dance New Amsterdam (DNA), New York City’s premiere studio dance school and performance center, will present a spectacular benefit dance concert that has drawn participation from all corners of the NYC dance scene. DNA Executive Director Kate Peila said, “Our dancers know the importance of community and the strength it brings. I’m thrilled by the roster of major dance talents who are participating.”

The concert will be the highlight of DNA’s week-long (February 13 - 19) “Relief for the People of Haiti” campaign to raise money and dry goods for the people of Haiti. Many dance teachers will donate a portion of the proceeds from that week’s classes and DNA will add matching funds. A collection box (from name of org) for dry goods will be set up in the lobby the entire week to accept donations. About the Dances

Duet x 2 (excerpt)

Choreography: Bill T. Jones

Performed by: LaMichael Leonard and Paul Matteson

Recently reconstructed for Company dancers Paul Matteson and LaMichael Leonard, Duet x2 was originally created by Bill T. Jones in 1982 as a site-specific work for The Kitchen. This excerpt of the work is rooted in a conventional modern dance vocabulary, emphasizing the Julian DeLeon space at full throttle.

Love Me Tender

Choreography: Stephen Petronio

Performed by: Julian DeLeon

Love me Tender was originally created and danced by Petronio as a prelude to a larger work - The King is Dead (1993). Made as an homage to his obsession as a young child with Presley’s music and persona, it is a personal take on the deliciously flawed contradiction in the desire for a brutal and tender love.
