Gene Pool

Gene Pool is an annual showcase tracing the diversity within DNA by sampling the work of choreographers and teachers with longstanding relationships to DNA, and honoring those who contribute in countless vital ways to the organization’s success.

Performance Project

The Performance Project offers DNA students an opportunity to expand upon relationships with DNA Faculty and Modern Guest Artists established through open classes.  DNA supports the growth of those relationships outside of the classroom by pairing students with teachers of their choosing to work collaboratively on a creative project presented in a three evening concert.  Serving both recreational dancers and aspiring professionals dancers, the Performance Project provides the chance to experience the creative process of dance through rehearsals and performance.  For the more advanced/professional dancer, it gives them the opportunity to work with a choreographer of their choice, expanding their performance experience and the opportunity to network.

Dance New Amsterdam’s RAW Material series has been supporting new and emerging artists since 2000. In an effort to create more opportunities for artists at various stages of development, RAW Material has expanded into two distinct programs: RAW Material and RAW Directions.

RAW Material will support the work of up to 6 new and budding choreographers who wish to gain more choreographic experience. DNA will provide marketing and production support, a small artist fee, an artistic advisor, 2 information showings, discounted and free rehearsal space (when available), a free marketing workshop, and panel feedback on application materials leading up to 2 performances of new 10-minute works in DNA’s theater. The RAW Material performances take place in September or October each year.

RAW Directions will support up to 5 emerging to mid-career choreographers having more than ten years of professional choreographic experience. DNA will provide a full marketing and production support package, a peer artistic consultant, 2 informal showings, a small commission, an artist fee, and discounted and free rehearsal space (when available) leading up to 3 performances of new 15-minute works in DNA’s theater. The RAW Directions performances take place in February or March each year.
