Martha’s teaching philosophy emphasizes connecting the thought patterns that facilitate physical movement with placement of the body. Through the use of images and body awareness, the mind learns to control the placement of the bones, connecting this with the engagement or relaxation of different muscle groups. These things, along with time and patience, are the building blocks of dance technique.
Martha believes that the study of dance, or of any physical discipline, is a process that unites the body, mind and spirit, promoting health and well-being. This is true regardless of the level of the student, from Basic Beginner to Professional. Talent and facility are not the most important qualities to build oneself as a dancer; one needs persistence and awareness overall.
