Choreographic Investigation Course

Composition Classes:

Composition classes will be held by one teacher for 6 classes. The class will have a theme that develops as the class progresses, but each day will have a specific task and topic so students can gain knowledge if they attend only one class or all six.

 Lectures:

Lectures will be held by both professionals in the field and artists who have found success in these areas. Before each class, please check the website for any materials necessary for the class.

Choreolab:

CHOREOLAB is an eight-week guided process that allows choreographers to create work within a supportive, safe and inspiring environment. Weekly, the participants will show work in class and will receive feedback from both the group and the facilitator. The workshop will culminate on the last session with a low-tech produced show in DNA’s intimate 130-seat theater and participants will have access to reduced-rate and subsidized free studio rentals.

Weekly showings & feedback within the class community
The optional opportunity to have showings & feedback videotapped
Subsidized studio rental discounted to $10/hour
Free last minute studio space
A minimal-tech showing in DNA’s 130-seat theater
A DVD of the final product of the work shown in the theater

Certificate Program Information:

Certificate students must submit an application along with a $25 application fee and interview to be accepted into the program. We offer two levels of Certification: Level I and Level II.  Each level has a separate tuition and application process.

Requirements:

Level I:
2 Units of Composition classes (must attend at least 10 out of 12 classes)
2 Units of Lectures (must attend at least 3 out of 4 offered)
1 Choreolab

Level II:
Successful Completion of Level I of the CIC and re-admittance to the program.
2 Units of Composition classes (must attend at least 10 out of 12 classes)
2 Units of Lectures (must attend at least 3 out of 4 offered)
1 Choreolab

If for some reason, you are unable to complete all of the requirements within a 6 month time-frame, make-up classes will be available within one calendar year of your start date.  Students will be charged the $20 drop-in tuition fee to take a make-up class.

Mentorship Opportunity:

All CIC Certificate Students will have the option of having a mentor for their 6-month program.  This mentor, one of our Composition and/or Choreolab teachers, will work with the student 1 hour per month in whatever activity the mentor and student agree will be most beneficial.
