DNA Subsidized Administrative Space Program

Dance New Amsterdam’s (DNA) mission is to support dancers by providing a dynamic environment for dance education, creation, and performance. Within this mission, DNA seeks to provide the tools and support necessary for artists to establish innovative, stable, and long-term careers in the dance field. Since its move to 280 Broadway and Chambers Street, DNA is broadening its support to the dance community by sharing its space and ample resources.

DNA’s Subsidized Administrative Space Program (SAS) was created to extend DNA’s resources to New York City artists. Affordable administrative space has become extremely difficult to come across- especially for small arts organizations. Helping to alleviate the financial pressure that dance companies face in New York, DNA provides emerging and established choreographers and companies a home at DNA. The SAS administrative space also pools resources (internet, fax, phone, etc.) to become a more cost efficient space for company operations. Additionally, participants receive access to DNA’s knowledgeable staff for consultation.

Administrative office space is provided within the executive offices at DNA at a subsidized rental rate of $250 monthly.

DNA’s community of artists, dancers, musicians, patrons and students provides a stimulating environment for SAS participants. Resident companies will receive professional guidance based on an initial annual assessment of each company’s unique challenges, goals and objectives. Primary artists in SAS companies are often given special consideration for employment within DNA’s school programs including the Modern Guest Artist Series.

The Application & Selection Process

Applications are on a first come, first served basis and will be accepted
 until all spots are filled.

 Monthly subsidized rehearsal rate: $250/cubicle.

 Choreographers and companies interested in seeking approval should provide the SAS committee with a brief proposal that should include the following information:
1. Name of Company or Individual
2. Non-Profit/Corporate status and organizational chart*
3. Mission Statement*
4. Brief History: biography of body of work, recent accomplishments
5. Documentation of current Fiscal sponsorship
6. Funding history
7. Financials (annual budget)*
8. Administrative Goals: strategic plan or outline of intended goals during 
artist/company’s residency in the SAS Program

Selection will be based upon need, a clear mission and a history of completed projects. Consideration will be given to successful informal showings, presentations in small venues and ongoing consistent development of work.

 Emerging dance artists and companies without an extensive history of performances or general body of work will also be considered for participation and are strongly encouraged to apply.

 The SAS program is ongoing. Cubicles are still available.

Arts Flamenco was formed to preserve the traditions of flamenco, while also evolving flamenco as an artform. It exists as a centralized resource to promote flamenco music, dance, and culture. Through education and performance ArtsFlamenco wishes to foster an intelligent appreciation for the art form, making flamenco accessible to all audiences, and create performance opportunities for flamenco artists.

Avodah Dance Ensemble a modern dance company based in New York City, is dedicated to dance making and community building. Avodah fuses the art of dance with a strong sense of social service offering programs for audiences of diverse traditions and cultures. Avodah presents its repertory in a wide range of venues including women’s prisons, concerts, spiritual services, arts festivals, family celebrations, and educational programs. Full Circle Productions is NYC’s premiere hip-hop dance theater company. FCP seeks to provide uplifting entertainment and educational programming by inspiring young dancers to gain stage experience while learning about the history and aesthetics of urban culture.

Mark Lamb Dance is a group of diverse dancers who utilize the company’s platform not only for art making and individual expression, but also as a tool for social change.
