Internship Program

Dance New Amsterdam is currently seeking letters of interest and resumes for the Internship Program. Internship positions will be available in all arts administration disciplines. Interns must commit to a minimum of 10hrs/weekly. Internships are unpaid but academic credit and classes at DNA will be given when applicable. Post graduate applicants will be considered.

Executive/Management: A flexible opportunity for a creative individual to work closely with executive management. Gain experience in general management, fundraising, budget analysis, contracts, board relations and other organizational decisions. Excellent writing and computer skills required. A current academic focus in financial management a plus.

Marketing: Opportunity to be a part of a fast-paced department handling advertising, promotions, public relations and graphic design. The internship will focus on creating outreach materials for DNA’s community of artists and patrons, as well as developing relationships with community partners. Assist designers in execution of workflow, including updating materials such as flyers and brochures. Knowledge of QuarkXPress and Photoshop on MAC platform helpful, or a desire to learn.

Development:
Assist in DNA’s Neighborhood Partnership Program while providing administrative support within this fast paced deadline-driven department. Grant writing and other related development experience is preferred. Knowledge of patron databases is a plus.

Production: Assist in the administrative organization of the production department’s special programs and DNA Presents Season. Videography and dubbing archiving experience is a strong plus.

School:
Assist in all general administrative duties within DNA’s educational department. An opportunity to participate in the development of special school programs, classes, events and workshops. A current academic focus in business management and/or education a plus.

All interested applicants should possess excellent computer skills, an aptitude for research, strong organizational skills and the ability to multi task. Dance New Amsterdam promotes and cultivates a unique environment for dancers and performing artists and we ask interested applicants to join us with a commitment of 3 - 6 months.

Production Apprenticeship

Apprentices fulfill crew responsibilities for productions in the DNA Theater. This includes but is not limited to the following: Changing the theater from classroom to theater orientation daily, operating sound and light boards, hanging and focusing lights, laying dance floors, moving scenery and props, operating rigging, performing as stage manager, and cleaning/maintaining the theater. Candidates must demonstrate a strong interest and willingness to learn these activities, as prior experience and knowledge is not required. They should be detail oriented, organized, and effective time managers. They should also be able to lift up to 50 pounds and be comfortable working at heights of 10 feet on ladders.

Compensation

Stipend of $7.15/hour; 10 class card for every 40 hours worked; Discounted rehearsal space

Expectations

Be part of a crew that works half of the productions occurring over a six month period.
