Alexandra Beller's unique blend of passionate movement and demanding text is performed by a startling, multifaceted and multicultural company. The premiere of a new company work, what comes after happy, challenges the American obsession with happiness, deconstructing self-help manuals, spiritual guidance, and children's television in an effort to find out why we must be so happy.
"A lush and hurtling force of nature with a brain"
-Jennifer Dunning, The New York Times
Combining humor with robust athleticism and social commentary, Adele Myers transforms the theater with her dance for six women into an intimate and accessible space. Myers' satirical premiere of Is That All There Is, exposes the cracks of the happily-after-after, pushing the performers to extremes and asking, Do you lose it, or keep it together?
"[Myers' Slipline is] a rich little world"
-Deborah Jowitt, The Village Voice
Listen to Alexandra Beller, artistic director of Alexandra Beller/Dances and DNA faculty, speak about happiness and her new piece in an interview by Armand DiMele, host of The Positive Mind on WBAI New York (October 3rd, 2007)
This production of SPLICE is made possible, in part, by a grant from Lower Manhattan Cultural Council
with the generous support of the September 11th Fund. ^ back to top

despite the challenges of daily life. Imagination and unconditional love inform the characters'
actions and is the driving energy of the story. Is it courageous to function, quietly coping or
can they turn their fears into flight and be able to rise out of the ordinary into the extraordinary?

Artists Present @ DNA
Overground Dance Company BLUEPRINT Saturday · October 6 · 8pm
Tickets: $15 Blueprint reveals the quest for original expression. Based on the concept of divine geometry inherent in nature
and replicated in our human design system, the dance traces common geometric relationships between architectural forms and
our innate DNA blueprint. A string of dynamically pulsating, expanding and shrinking kinetic sculptures snakes through
a pagoda-shaped structure, creating a somewhat encapsulated choreography, radiating rays of angularity and roundness,
of abundance and austerity, of gravity and levity. The juxtaposition of sparse "butoh-esque" vocabulary from within
the structure and a free flowing bodily movement on the outside creates fluctuating contrast of conflict and reconciliation. ^ back to top
